This past October, we drove down to Vernon, B.C. to join Shannon and Bret for their wedding. Vernon has amazing cycling and we spent a few days preceding the wedding enjoying the beautiful landscapes. On the morning of the wedding, naturally, Bret et al started off the day with a quick 10km run up a hill to loosen any nerves; the sunrise run with dad and friends meant everyone could indulge in a waffle breakfast, leaving everyone well prepared for the day’s work ahead.
The first looks were on a dock at Kalamalka Lake. With hazy, warm air and soft light, Shannon and Bret shared their first moments just the two of them, and Rizzo, …and us :) The best part of being a photographer is being there for special moments like this. Shannon had stayed at a friend’s house, so this was a moment both of them looked forward to. The calm before a busy day, a few moments of quiet enjoyment together to take it all in.
Our next location was the apple orchards at Cambium Cider Co, the featured cider for the wedding. We connected with the owners the day prior and got the best spots to shoot. Despite the late fall day, a few apples still remained unpicked and offered a beautiful backdrop. Somehow ahead of schedule, we opted to pop into Polson Park, another beautiful Vernon location for a few quick shots before heading to Tantalus, the vineyard wedding location.
With the help of the flower girl and Rizzo (ring bearer), surrounded by their nearest, Shannon and Bret said “I do” overlooking the Tantalus vineyard. I think Rizzo earned his rest. Big job carrying the rings, but he did great!
The unseasonably warm weather and low sunset made for some beautiful light. We couldn’t help but shoot this one last set. The night started to cool off and everyone was ready to enjoy the evening together. Tantalus was mid-harvest and while everyone relaxed, the crew was just getting started with their work.
Congratulations Shannon and Bret! May this be the start of a long and happy chapter in life together.
