Jordan and Marcus’s love story began in junior high school, where a shy Jordan asked Marcus out, marking the start of a beautiful journey from childhood sweethearts to lifelong partners. After high school, they pursued their dreams, built careers, and eventually moved to Vancouver. In a heartwarming full-circle moment, Marcus proposed to Jordan at the very spot where their first date took place, sealing their love with a promise of forever.
Jordan and Marcus decided to honor their cultural backgrounds, weaving together elements of Jordan's indigenous ancestry and Marcus' Ukrainian heritage into their wedding celebration. With the help of family and friends, they created a beautiful blend of traditions that brought unique character to their special day. The morning began with Marcus getting ready at his sister's house, enjoying breakfast and shenanigans with the guys. Meanwhile, Jordan spent her morning at the salon, preparing for the day ahead. Her ensemble featured a stunning vinok, a traditional Ukrainian floral wreath worn by brides, symbolizing purity, youth, and the connection to nature, and beautiful jewelry crafted by an indigenous artist, complemented by a pair of sparkling, comfortable running shoes.
We started the day at Borden Park, a large greenspace located in Edmonton, Alberta, that held special meaning for the couple. The park's pavilion, known for its modern design and stunning architecture, provided a beautiful and unique backdrop. Despite it being early spring and uncertainty about the weather, the sun shone brightly, with no rain in sight and the first hints of green emerging. The park was particularly significant as Marcus' mother had played a key role in bringing the pavilion to life, making it the perfect spot for their first looks and a few cherished photos.
The glass-faced pavilion created a fun and dynamic backdrop for photos, reflecting the lush parkspace and allowing for creative content. We also made sure to include their sassy brown dachshund, Aramis, in a token family photo, adding a personal touch to the memorable day.
Nick and I spend a lot of time riding our bikes through Edmonton, discovering unique and inspiring backdrops for photos. We couldn't wait to try a location in the heart of downtown, which perfectly complemented Jordan's vinok and Marcus' grey suit with its white brick and bright yellow features. With spring only beginning to show its colors, we wanted a fun and unique place to capture a few memorable photos.
Our next photography location was a classic urban setting, nestled among the tall buildings in the heart of downtown. The contrast between the sleek urban architecture and the elegance of their outfits provided a striking backdrop, offering various textures and lighting depending on the shooting direction. We then headed to the museum, where we met up with family for some group photos. The museum's light textures and elegant surroundings provided a perfect setting for capturing a few more intimate shots of the couple.
We then arrived at the wedding venue and set up for Vykup, a traditional game-based activity where the groom proves his worthiness to the bride's family. With a modern twist, it was Jordan who got to decide and approve of Marcus's worthiness instead. Marcus faced a series of trials and tribulations, with his groomsmen by his side for support. In the end, he successfully passed the tests, and Jordan decided he was good marriage material. The wedding ceremony then took place under the warm spring sun, surrounded by their family and friends.
This was not just any wedding—it was a Star Wars-themed extravaganza held on May the 4th. The officiant donned a Star Wars-themed suit, and the couple, along with their wedding party, made a grand entrance to the iconic sounds of Star Wars. Adding to the fun, Jordan's dad and stepdad performed a heartfelt skit where they playfully battled to determine who held the title of her father. It was a touching and adorable celebration, filled with laughter, tears of joy, and a galaxy of memories made under the warm spring sun.
